Rockingham Firecracker Open - 7/3/2010

With an open holiday weekend and a good weather forecast, the Rockingham Gun Club held a registered trapshoot. The Firecracker Open was well attended with very little time to advertise the event.

The weather was picture perfect with very little wind during the singles to speak of. During the caps the wind would blow gently into the trap and then here it came from behind the traps.

Jimmy Wilson won the singles with a 99 and dropped his only bird on my trap. Tommy Brown won the handicap with a 92 and we actually had 15 shooters for the honorary punch. Tommy also won the doubles with a strong 96 and yes he also won the HOA with a 284.

Lunch was some great pizza from Pizza Hut and Lee Ann actually got a peach cobbler delivered intact to the table. Folks were digging into the cobbler before lunch arrived. Elmo even had a take home bowl for consumption during the race in Daytona.

All in all it was perfect day for shooting and JC managed to lay it on Lewis Wyatt in the caps and the doubles. Lewis must have felt the beatdown a coming and sat out the singles and helped score. It might have been good that he did score because JC inkballed 96 to secure “C” class in the singles.
