Welcome back and a big thanks to Justin Lecus for getting the site back up and working. He is a “volunteer” and if I was paying him to maintain the page it would cost a small fortune.
The big story would have been the very successful Dixie Grand and the great scores that were broken at the North Carolina Homegrounds. Weather was interesting with cool temps and wind and partly cloudy conditions.
It is very rare for the Homegrounds to experience any technical issues or trap problems, but it was bound to happen. Traps 1&2 were not used due to power issues and 3&4 were run on generators. I believe trap 13 decided to act up but was fixed eventually. All in all, it was a great event and thanks to the NCTA and HOF board for all their efforts!
I looked at the 2017 Dixie Grand in Odessa Florida and the singles total for Saturday was 365 entrees. NC netted just below the 300 mark for the Saturday championship event. I am not sure how it compares to previous years at NC, but it was a good turnout compared to 2024 with the hurricane.
The main events includes the Championship Doubles on Friday, Championship Singles on Saturday and the Championship Handicap on Sunday. NJ AAA Vet Richard Batesko broke the lone 99 for the doubles win. North Carolina’s own Mark Cox broke the lone 199 missing a target on the first 25 and running the rest in rough conditions. That left the Handicap Sunday and Maryland SubVet John Kirksey posted the lone 98 from the 25 yard-line. HOA was won by AAA Anthony Fortino from Illinois with 956x100. This was his first visit to NC, and I believe he will be back. HAA was won by FL AAA SubVet Carl Chadwell with 95-196-96 to “1” bird Anthony Fortino with a 387x400. This is not the first time Carl has shot at NC since his move to Florida and being sponsored by Kolar shotguns. Normally I just cover the major winners, and more info can be found at www.shootscoreboard.com
If this smoke report appeared at the time it was supposed to be posted, you would have been informed that the Rockingham County Gun Club hosted ATA National Trapshooting Month and was offering Shamrock leather trophies for the winners. This is the third time (2010,2020,2025) that this has been done at RCGC. It looks like the weather will be great so come on out.
That is about is for this belated Smoke Report and I will be working on the 10/20/2025 Smoke Report in just a few minutes. Hello to Scott, Ronnie, Cowboy, Tim, Bobby, Phil, Mac, John, Art, Barron, Mark C, Mark S, Dan, John W, Jimmy D, Thea and Anne and until next week……smokem
