June is here and here comes the NC State Shoot. For the most part the weather looks good and warm with a chance of rain for the weekend. Pretty much what you would expect for June in NC with 90’s for a high on Friday.

Lots of shooting around us with the New Jersey State Shoot, Alabama State Shoot and the VA HOF. Caleb Mathis took Non-Res Singles Champ Saturday with a 196 and at the time of this writing he was shooting doubles. NC JrGold Kolar shooter Colson Allen slipped up to the VAHOF and posted a 99 in the prelim singles to win the event. GA JrGold Kolar shooter Ethan Ledford won the non-res singles with a 200 and a 25 in a shootoff. Hats off to these youngins and they are getting tuned up for the NC State Shoot.

Go to out of state shoot info for more info on the shoots mentioned above. Dan Johnson added a true story to his thread and Marty Hill also added a true story about a new shooter. Dan also added an entry into the NC Hot Shot section about the BIG50 at Buckhorn.

The North Carolina State Shoot starts on Wednesday of this week and for the most part the weather looks ok. Friday looks like the hottest day with a threat of rain over the weekend. If you are interested in eating breakfast or lunch the Philco food truck will be on site with breakfast starting at 7:30 AM.

The state shoot has been held in several locations over the years. I shot at the Piedmont Gun Club in Greensboro in 1964, the Tarheel Gun Club in Advance in 1968 and the Pinehurst Gun Club in the early 70’s. The state shoot moved to Durham Wildlife Club in or about 1994 after Pinehurst shot down. Then in 2001 the NC Homegrounds hosted the first shoot in the new location. The original layout hosted 9 traps and since then 8 more traps have been added. Most would agree it is one of the nicest trapshooting venues in the South.

I am looking forward to attending the state shoot this year and hopefully it will be well attended. Will this be the year of the youngsters winning the main events or will the old school shooters get it done? Only time and targets will tell.

Hello to Scott, Ronnie, Cowboy, Tim, Phil, Mac, John, Art, Barron, Mark C, Mark S, Kolar Dan, Thea and Anne and until next week ………………smokem
