Spencer Power Wins The Friday Caps At The Dogwood

Post by smokem »

Spencer Power broke a 97 Friday to win the handicap event amongst 11 squads of shooters. There were several shooters knotted up with 93's and they shot for 4th - 6th place. Lane Murray took 5th and I don't have anymore info.

I believe the entire state is hunkered down for this fast moving tornado producing storm. We hope they can get some shooting in today and I believe Sunday will be a perfect day for the dubs and caps events.

If you like weather try this website - http://www.wunderground.com/ - not only do they give you the weather they also allow private weather stations to report to their website. If you drill down to the bottom of the site after you enter Bostic, NC you will find an actual weather station in Bostic NC. I have been watching the Bostic WX station and the wind is really moving around this morning.

If we get anymore tidbits of info from Bostic we will surely pass it on.

Windy Day At The Dogwood

Post by smokem »

Windy Saturday At The Dogwood
The winds were howling at the Dogwood today at the NC Homegrounds. One shooter compared the wind to "hurricane" force and others called the wind names I cannot publish. Luckily the wind was coming from the South and and thank goodness it wasn't blowing into the traps.
Shooting started a little later in the day around 10:30 with 35 singles shooters. Some decided to sit it out and we will discuss some of those porch sitters in a little bit. Steve Wyatt was nice enough to call and give me the scores for the singles and the handicap and we will post that in the normal "trapshoot results" section.

The winner of the singles was one of Pennsylvania's finest shooters Sheldon Hotstetter with a 195. Sheldon traveled to the Pinehurst Gun Club during the days that the Dogwood was held in Pinehurst. Pennsylvania transplant Karole Miller led all shooters in the caps with a 91 and a 1/2 yard punch. Lewis Wyatt broke a 90 in that wind to secure the Senior Vet accolades.

My earlier "weekly blurb" contained a piece of info pertaining to the Watauga Cartel. I predicted that George "BamBam" Sudderth would whip Tom Pitts and Tom Shelley and that Tom Pitts would possibly whip Tom Shelley. While Tom Shelley was fighting the wind and the rain he looked over on the porch and who did he see? Pitts - Marty - Sudderth or shall we call we lovingly call them "PMS" which stands for "Probably Might Sit". Shelley said the three of them were rocking in the rocking chairs and holding hands singing "Kumbaya My Lord Kumbaya" and sharing campfire stories. Tom - John Waters and Eli Waters had to stand in the gap and make up the hedge and represent the rugged mountain shooters from the Watauga Gun Club. Tom was rewarded for his efforts winning 5th in the handicap and Eli took Class B in the singles. Shelley texted me a simple word that represented his day - "WINNING"

Lewis noticed that Jimmy and Jeri were working out of their car and he asked where their camper was. Jimmy commented that he had a "growth" in it. Confused, Lewis commented and asked if it was like mold or a fungus and Jimmy said yes.

That is about it from the Dogwood and Sunday looks a lot better for the fair weather shooters. Looks like 70's and west wind blowing 5-10mph. More folks will show up and I anticipate a good Sunday crowd for sure. I guess you are thinking and yes I am thinking it also. Will George and Tom redeem themselves after Tom Shelley took it on the chin and braved the wind? He has already won the virtual HOA because George and Tom laid out of the singles. If memory serves me correctly Tom Shelley won the Sunday Dogwood Caps in 2010. Only time and 200 targets will tell the tale.
