March 3rd Smoke Report

Post by smokem »

March is here and let the shooting begin. The weather is warming up, and the shoot schedule is filling in. Go to www.nctrap.com for the most up-to-date North Carolina shoot calendars and there are two.

If you want to register some targets Spartanburg shoots this Saturday and this is the link to the program. https://shootata.com/portals/0/pdf/prog ... lename.pdf
Brushy Mountain Gun Club will start their BIG50 program on April 4th and thanks to Art Bodell for his keen eye. The Watauga Gun Club will host a BIG50 this Sunday - 2PM...

Before I created a Facebook page for TarHeelTrap all my efforts were focused on this website. Now that FB has decided to suppress my ideas and thoughts, I am back hopefully providing more content here. I missed when Charlie Ackroyd passed and just recently Anne Herring passed away. Some might know Mac Herring and the Coharie Gun Club, and not only did they throw a good target beside a pig farm the lunches they served were always delicious. Sandy Patterson provided some of the tasty lunches and Anne did also. I am digging through some old Coharie shoot pictures and hopefully will locate some pictures with Anne behind the lunch table. They were married 60 years and please pray for him and the family at this time.

I have been posting about Tom Shelley and his desire to sell his Kolar Combo. He had two bites that fell through and I mentioned to another fellow that Tom wanted to sell his gun. That was Wednesday night and by Thursday the deal was in progress. Tom Shelley was riding to Greensboro from Boone and Tommy Brown was heading to Greensboro from Hillsborough. I contacted them both and said I will meet both of you at Sportsman’s Warehouse and then we can all grab lunch at a local Mexican restaurant. Tommy got his gun and we all got a full belly and a bunch of laughs. It was good to see both of them and hope it won’t be so long next time.

When the Rockingham County Gun Club hosted their February BIG50 they also held orientation for new members. One fellow showed up and some of you might remember JD Goodwin. He was around the shooting scene for quite a while and then marriage and raising kids became more important. He also coached 4H youth shooters Colson Allen and Isaac Mccoy. He is back to shooting and practicing and his oldest son is spreading some lead also. Glad to see him back on the range!!!!

Steve Morgan is on the mend after a visit to the hospital. A visit to the doctor informed him that he was in AFIB. He was admitted and put in a room in the emergency room about 2 Thursday and didn’t get into a room until 24 hours later. For those of us that know Steve he doesn’t mince words and has been known to say a wirty dord once in a while. He told the nurse that you would think in a multi-million dollar building and with folks going to the moon they could buy a more comfortable bed. He said what he was lying on wasn’t a bed it was a torture table. He got back home Saturday, and they got his heart slowed down and hopefully under control. Be praying for him and for the docs to get it figured out. I told him about my experience with the condition, and it isn’t any fun.

The Southern Grand cranks up next week and Jeff Galloway got a chance to practice Saturday. He managed to shoot 11 rounds and had a 95 in doubles so hopefully all that practice will pay off in Florida. Looking at pre-squad.com the attendance looked great. Hopefully the weather will hold up, and a dry week will be great for all participants. I will be reporting on the shoot and will post in the out-of-state shoot info section.

That should do it for this week. Weather looks good all week and you have got to love those warmer temperatures. Hello to Scott, Ronnie, Cowboy, Tim, Bobby, Phil, Mac, John, Art, Barron, Mark C, Mark S, Dan, John W, Jimmy D, Thea and Anne and until next week……smokem
