August is here and finally the rain comes but will it last. Saturday in the Triad was rainy looking, but nothing materialized. Sunday produced some heavy downpours and flash flood warnings. One shoot over the weekend and NC shooters are competing in Sparta.
The Charlie Brown Gun Club hosted a 300-target shoot Saturday, and it was well attended. 40 singles with 18 youth shooters, 22 handicap shooters and 8 doubles competitors. I don’t have a shoot report yet, but youth shooters won the singles, and the handicap was won with a 98. Bob Kemp was very happy with the turnout, and they are planning more events in the future.
The Grand has been underway since last week and NC shooters are doing the best they can. I have not found a NC winner yet but there is a lot of shooting left to go. Mark Cox arrived yesterday and sent me a video of the wind this morning at the WSRC. It was a video of a tent rocking in 10-20mph winds, but the pros are still breaking the birds regardless. Isaac McCoy shot the doubles yesterday and he said it was like shooting in a car wash. Unfortunately, the rest of the week looks wet but also cooler than years past.
There is a good chance that the smoke report will be delayed next Monday. I will be headed back from Sparta and might be a little tired after that short ride.
