May 11th Smoke Report

Post by smokem »

Happy Mother’s Day after to all the fathers that bought flowers and chocolate and cards for you significant other. Only one shoot over the weekend and it was at Ft. Bragg. Two events this weekend including a BIG50 at Rockingham and a 300 target program at Buckhorn.

I hatched a plan to ride to Ft. Bragg and shoot the singles. Then drive down to see my mother in Morehead City for Mother’s Day. When I left Greensboro, it was a little cool and partly cloudy. The closer I got to Spring Lake the darker the skies got and then sprinkling rain. When I arrived, James Fisher was preparing to shoot a practice round as I headed to register. I stepped in the door and there was Marty registering a few shooters and he looked up and said is that rain. Yes, it was rain and it was coming down pretty good. Folks started showing up including Allan Davis, Tim Crabtree, Chris Powell, Allan Snyder and a few others. The radar showed clearing and by the time the first two squads of singles shot it had stopped raining. It held off for the singles and the caps and by the time the doubles were to start here it came again. I believe James Fisher won the singles with a 97 and not sure who won the caps, dubs or hoa. I will update when I get the information. Good time had by all and Donna C I actually broke a score in the 80’s…..Chris Powell caps with a 92 and doubles Allan Davis 91.....thanks Marty!

The Rockingham Gun Club will host a BIG50 Saturday with a emphasis on AIM youth shooters. For over 5 years RCGC held an SCTP oriented youth shoot and at one event it attracted over 80 singles shooters with over 50 handicap shooters and 40 doubles shooters. Now the emphasis is on AIM shooters and while there are over 140 in the books the number of active AIM shooters is probably less than 30 or 40 in the state. Our date for the event was the first Saturday in May and all of a sudden the SCState/NCHOF appears on the calendar. So, I guess you have to find another date and here we are. Registration is 9 with shooting to begin as soon as squads are filled. Saturday the weather forecast is looking good so come out and join us.

Sunday the Buckhorn Gun Club will host a 300-target program, and the weather forecast looks great. Always a great lunch served and if you want to see Jimmy Wilson, he might not be there after having shoulder surgery on the 13th. Please pray for his procedure and for Jeri while she takes care of the big fellow.

TarHeelTrap was down for a period of time due to a domain registration issue. It looks like it is back up and thanks to Justin for getting it back up. Remember the backup site is TRAPnNC.freeforums.net

That will do it for this week and I hope everyone is preparing for the NC State Shoot in just a few weeks. Hello to Scott, Ronnie, Cowboy, Tim, Bobby, Phil, Mac, John, Art, Barron, Mark C, Mark S, Dan, John W, Jimmy D, SPY2, HGIII, Thea and Anne and until next week……smokem
