2011 Dixie Grand Report
Dandy Don Meredith is singing "Turn Out The Light The Parties Over". Lloyd Beecraft broke the lone 98 today to secure the Dixie Grand Handicap honors. Out of 352 entries no NC shooter got their name on the final tally for the caps event.
The 100 bird horserace wound up with Harlan Campbell winning the HAA with a 93 in the caps to give him a solid 392x400 for the weekend. Ricky Marshall wound up with the AAA HAA with a solid 390x400 for his target total.

North Carolina's own Charlie Brown led all SrVet shooters and secured the HAA SrVet RUp with a 377x400 and tied the SrVet winner Tom Larkin. There must have been a shootoff involved. Also Charlie took the HOA with a 920x1000 which is some great shooting considering early morning cool temps and windy conditions all week.

If you have a moment to take a look at the rjstuart scoreboard some NC folks just escaped with their shirts. That has got to be a long ride back to NC after breaking some of the scores posted. I have felt the same way riding back from the SC State Shoot several years.

All in all I know everybody had a great time and folks are already preparing for the Southern Grand in March.

Saturday results are in and there were only two 200's broken in the event today. GA resident Bob Boswell was the eventual winner over stock maker Keith Heeg. Good news and that is over 100 more shooters shot this event than in 2010.

According to my folks on the ground it was great for the AM 100 and then the wind came a calling. Charlie Brown broke a 196 and Jeff Galloway broke a 195 today to lead all NC shooters.

Right now it looks like it will be a 100 target shootoff for HOA with Harlan Campbell and Ricky Marshall tied with 299's for the first two events. We are looking for some NC shooters to get it done on Sunday - Go NC Go................

Friday results are in and no NC shooters stood upon the podium in the Nitro Handicap. However we did have a few NC shooters win outright in the doubles event. Two 100's topped the doubles with Charlie Brown winning the SrVet with a 95. Evidenlty all that practice at the Rock paid off with Jeff Galloway winning A Class doubles with a 94.

Other NC shooters didn't fare too well today with some super low scores. Evidently it was a little cool and windy Friday morning. We are anticipating North Carolina shooters to shine in the singles event Saturday!

Friday - Thursday at the Dixie only two events for the day. None of our finest showed up in the winners circle but to save the day Charlie Brown won SrVet RUp in the doubles with a 94. NC shooters traveled to the Dixie Thursday and we hope to see them on the leader board Friday.

One neat thing about the rjstuart site is that you can look at the scoreboard feature and see what folks are breaking. We noticed that Leo Harrison sat out the Doubles Tuesday, all events Wednesday and all events Thursday. For the record, Leo was standing beside his bad boy buggy and when it went backwards without him, he got tripped up and fell. When he tried to break his fall, he broke his arm (just above the wrist). We pray that he heals up quickly and gets back to shooting real soon.

Wednesday - Tuesday at the Dixie yielded a few more NC winners. In the Matt Trammell singles Billy Thigpen took A RUp with a 97. In the prelim caps there were no NC winners with four 96's at the top. In the Tuesday prelim doubles Harlan had the lone 100 with Tom Wilkinson taking A RUp with a 95

Wednesday could be called Windsday looking at the scores. 253 shooters stepped to the line for the Singles Class Championship. One of the Minnesota "Dog Squad" posted the lone 100 and no NC shooters won a class today. Wednesday's prelim caps was won with a 93. 7 out of the 11 earned yardage punches were from 22 yards in. Charlie Brown took the SrVet RUp with a solid 89 from the 27. The Leo Harrison doubles had a lone 98 with Harlan posting a 90 in the event. Charlie Brown once again put NC on the board with a SrVet win with a 92.

From what I can tell the weather is looking better the rest of the week. Our mystery NC traveler got setup behind bank 4 on the golf side. He stated that he would sit out today and possibly Thursday to get a bit of practice before NC shooters arrived Thursday.

Tuesday - Monday results looks good for some NC boys. Billy Thigpen took runner-up B singles with a 98 and Charlie Brown won SrVet with a 98. Charlie also won the SrVet doubles with a 93.

Looking at the leader board today all I can report on is the doubles with Harlan Campbell posting the lone 100 with 96 a close second. Billy Thigpen, Larry High, Bill Howe and Charlie Brown posted scores in the 80's with Tom Wilkinson at the top of the NC guys with a 95.

I will try to contact somebody to see what the weather was like in the Sunshine State. There are still a bunch of carryovers from Monday and hopefully some of those will shake out with the scores from today.

Just took a look at the www.rjstuart.com leader board and noticed some folks from NC and beyond. It looks like Billy Thigpen and Brad Barnett are showing up on the leader board with a 96 being high at the moment. Leo had a 93 and Tank Lunsford had a 90. Could we venture to guess that the wind might have been working on the birds?

Terry Jordan the fellow the makes the wall charts is at the Dixie along with the Eubanks brothers from KY, Jim Blevins from PA and the fellow that whipped me for A class at the 2003 HOF after I broke a 199 - Thomas Freeman from TN.

We will try to keep an eye on the site from time to time and see just how good the NC shooters are doing. Also, Ed Clarke from SC had a 95 in the caps and will win some kind of trophy today for sure..
