Thanksgiving week 2025 is upon us and I hope you and your family are preparing to celebrate the holiday with food and fellowship. Not much to report this week and the only trap shoot coming up in NC is Buckhorn the 7th of December.

Currently this site dates back to 2014 with smoke reports penned by yours truly. The previous site dated back to 2001 and unfortunately all of those ramblings were not moved to the new platform. I do however have word documents from smoke reports that go back before 2014.

I took a moment to go back to a few smoke reports from 2015 and 2019 and read what had been written at that time. Some gun clubs were mentioned that no longer host registered events and also trap shooters that are no longer with us. For those of us that have been around a while we remember some of those older shooters and before you know it those older shooters will be us! November is the month JC Nunn passed in 2014 and the month Lewis Wyatt was born on November 21st, 1938.

Certainly, as a trapshooter we can appreciate the efforts by gun clubs in NC for hosting registered events for competition. Also, the efforts of the Hall of Fame and NCTA boards for all their work during the year and at the SC@NC State Shoot, NC State Shoot and the Dixie Grand. A big THANKS to all I would say during this thanksgiving season.

Very soon the 2026 NCTA shooting events calendar will be established and published and normally appears first on www.nctrap.com One thing I do miss was the newsletter Terry Roush sent out at Christmas that captured information about club target attainment, state team and HAA team leaders and other interesting information. It was always a good read and hopefully some of that info will be published on the tarheeltrap Facebook page by NCTA president Marty Hill.

Just an update on my eye surgery Wednesday. All went well except for being semi-awake during the procedure and hearing people talk and feeling pain. I am going to check with Tim Davis to see if that is normal during surgery. My eye is currently blood red and following a regimen of steroid and prednisone drops every 4 hours. If you are having issues with floaters, it might be worth getting them checked out. I had expected cataract surgery to help my vision only to have jellyfish like floaters develop. I am not saying my cataract surgery contributed to the condition, but I did not have them before the cataract surgery. Google “Vitrectomy” and check it out.

That will about do it for this week. I am looking forward to some great Thanksgiving food. One of the smoke reports from days gone by reported Marty deep frying turkeys at Ft. Bragg with all the trimmings…..good times. Have a great week everyone and we will catch you next week. Hello to Scott, Ronnie, Cowboy, Tim, Bobby, Phil, Mac, John, Art, Barron, Mark C, Mark S, Dan, John W, Jimmy D, Thea and Anne and until next week……smokem
