Great weather weekend in North Carolina and a cool down heading toward the Labor Day holiday. Two shooting events with Ft. Bragg and the Watauga Gun Club registering ATA targets.
Ft. Bragg shot Saturday, and they had a decent turnout. 27/24/14 showed up to shoot the three events and Mark Spoon posted the lone 100 to lead all singles shooters. Richard Evans won the handicap with reverse score over Junior Jacob Gossett 25/24 after they posted 95’s. Jacob reached the “27 yard line” with his 1/2 yard punch and congratulations! Joe Nalley led all doubles entries with a 95 and Mark Spoon won the HOA with 100/91/91=282x300. Marty would like to thank everyone that came out to shoot and to all that pitched in to help. Ft. Bragg shoots next on November 15th.
The Watauga Gun Club hosted a two-day shooting event to honor the memory of Glenn Miller and Tom Pitts. The program was 100 caps and 100 pairs of doubles and 200 singles on Sunday. 11/9/9 showed up for the Saturday events with Caleb Mathis leading all handicap shooters with a 96. Shawn Reese was hi-gun in the first doubles event with a 94 and Caleb won the 2nd doubles event with a 99. Sunday the top singles shooter was a Junior in D Class with a 100 straight and then a 97 to lead all 12 entries. Shawn Reese was a close second with 196. Cody Lyon broke his first 100 straight with Breyden Messer and Cameron White breaking their first singles 25’s in ATA competition. Caleb Mathis lead all shooters in the HAA with a 480x200. Morg was elated that everything was working for the two-day event considering all the damage from hurricane Helene. WGC shoots next on September 27th.
When you host a trap shooting competition you just never know who will show up. TN lady shooter Ashlyn “half” Forester showed up to shoot and she hasn’t registered an ATA target since 10/17/2021 at Hog Heaven. Morg said that she will be moving soon just a few miles from the Hog Heaven Gun Club. She will be a great asset to that gun club, and their Fall Festival shoot is September 18th - 21st. Their Mountain Days shoot is October 16th – 18th. They say it is a great place to shoot with sky targets.
This Saturday, Sunday and Monday the Buckhorn Gun Club will be hosting a trapshooting event. 100 singles, handicap, doubles on Saturday and Sunday with 150 pairs of doubles on Monday. Shooter appreciation dinner on the grounds Saturday night with the chicken being provided by Karole and John Miller. All the fixings and desserts will be provided and the food prepared by none other than Chef Tim Crabtree. The weather is looking good all three days with temps in the high 70’s and minimal winds.
Ok that should do it for this week and please take a look at a new story from Dan Johnson in Tall Tales & True Stories. Hello to Scott, Ronnie, Cowboy, Tim, Bobby, Phil, Mac, John, Art, Barron, Mark C, Mark S, Dan, John W, Thea and Anne and until next week……smokem
