August 28th Smoke Report

Good morning and I hope temps are cooler in your neck of the woods. Hot here in the Tarheel state but cooler in the NC mountains for the Glenn Miller Memorial Ironman. No other events to report on from last week and Buckhorn shoots this weekend on Saturday and Sunday.
NC shooters gathered for the 22nd Annual Glenn Miller Memorial Ironman shoot at the Watauga Gun Club Saturday. 68 degrees and bright sunny skies and minimal winds made for some good targets. Shooting got underway about 9:30 and three traps were used for the handicap events.
The first handicap event was won by Daniel Tollison with a 93. Second handicap was a tie with sub-jr Tytus Wilson with a 95 and shooting Tom Pitts Beretta and Joel Schram. The third handicap was won by Will Price with a 96 after Randy Jones cleared him for takeoff. The two doubles events were won by Billy Soper with a 95 and a 93. Will Price was declared the Ironman with a 453, Billy Soper runner-up with a 451 and Megan Smith with a 448………
Morgan Shaw and the crew did the best they could to keep things running smoothly but ran out of light and had to finish the doubles with car and truck headlights. 32 entries and 15 shot all 500 targets and that can make for a long day. Hats off to all the folks who helped, and it was good to see Jason Dancy after his recent gall bladder surgery. Even the North Carolina state delegate Bob Schultz showed up to spread the lead.
The weather is looking great for the two-day shoot at the Buckhorn Gun Club this weekend. I believe the program for both days is 100 singles, handicap and 50 pairs of doubles. Saturday the high is only 81 degrees and that will be nice. Lunch is always tasty and hopefully the dessert queen Karole Miller has prepared some type of scrumptious goodies. These targets will go on the new target year. If you have not updated your ATA membership you can do it online or I am sure the folks at Buckhorn will sign you up.
A couple of things including a happy birthday to NC Hall of Fame shooter Jeff Galloway. He turned 38 on Saturday, and he was born the year I got married. Also, I will be having a vitrectomy done on my right eye and 4 weeks later the left eye. This procedure is for the removal of vitreous floaters that developed after my cataract surgery. I first found out about the procedure from shooter Jaque Snellenberger…..she broke a 98 at the 2023 GAH. Not saying getting my eyes fixed will allow me to break a 98 but you get the idea.
Ok that is about it, and I hope everyone has a great week. Raining now in Jamestown and the start of the week looks a little wet. Hello to Scott, Ronnie, Cowboy, Tim, Bobby, Phil, Mac, Thea and Anne and until next week……..smokem
