October 3rd Smoke Report

Post by smokem »

Happy hurricane free Monday and our prayers go to out to all the folks that survived Ian. The Dixie Grand moved an event from Friday to Thursday but other than that the show rolled on. Hats off to the NCTA and the HOF boards for a job well done as always. Marty Hill will be posting a thank you to all that helped, and we will publish that next week.

One registered event this week and it is a BIG50 at the Rockingham County Gun Club and it will be held Tuesday at 9AM. Weather is looking good with a high temp of 65 and looks like sunny skies will prevail.

The Dixie Grand is in the books, and it was well attended. Tuesday through Wednesday was nice weather wise, and the wind moved in Thursday. That is when shoot management decided to move the championship doubles to Thursday. That created issues for folks attending Friday and hoping to shoot the Championship Doubles on Friday along with the singles on Saturday and the handicap on Sunday.

So, with caps and two doubles events on Thursday that left the handicap as the only event on Friday, and it started raining about 10:30. It was cold and windy and rainy, but they go the event shot. Saturday and Sunday turned out to be good days to shoot but by that time some folks had already left. All in all, it was a great event, and many memories were made.

I will mention the main event winners and make a few comments. The Dixie Grand Doubles Champ was James Flint with a 96, the Dixie Grand Singles Champ was WVA SrVet Doug Damron with a 198, the Dixie Grand Handicap Champ was Jr shooter Gage Malone with a 96. The HOA and HAA winner was KY shooter Kevin “Tank” Polson with a 949 and 387. Now there were a lot of winners over the course of the competition and hopefully a comprehensive shoot report will be available. Congrats to all the winners and hopefully we will get to see everybody back in Bostic in 2023!

A couple of target attainment milestones to mention including Will Price and Frank Ketron. Will Price shot at and broke his 25,000th singles target and Frank got his quarter million pin presented by Billy Cook of TN. Those are great accomplishments and congrats to both fine gentlemen.

That is about it for this week, and I hope everyone enjoys the cooler weather. It won’t be long until the time change and here comes winter. Better enjoy shooting while you can while the weather is halfway decent. Hello to Scott, Ronnie, Cowboy, Tim decided to attend the Petite LeMans in GA, Bobby, Thea and Anne and until next week………smokem
