September 5th Smoke Report

Post by smokem »

Labor Day is here and hopefully you are enjoying a day off or maybe not. If you wanted to shoot registered trap the Buckhorn Gun Club hosted a two-day event, and it was well attended. Couple of BIG50’s this week including Rockingham County and CCLEOA.

A big congrats to Jimmy Wilson on shooting at and breaking his 100,000th singles target at Buckhorn Sunday morning. He got to 50K around 2005 and 17 years later he registered his 100K. They had a cake for him, and Jim Hughes presented his 100,000 pin.

Saturday at Buckhorn John Miller won the singles, Shawn Reese won the handicap and Joel Schram won the doubles with Allan Davis securing the HOA. Sunday Doug Monjeau won the singles, Mark Spoon handicap, Joe Nalley doubles and HOA. Of course, a big thanks to all that helped and to all that attended the two-day shoot.

Dave Daily called me Saturday after shooting registered trap in Aynor South Carolina. Dave has been having some issues pulling the trigger due to problems with his trigger finger. He tries to pull the trigger and the finger just fails to work. Anyway, he called to say he broke a 97 in the handicap event and he feels like things are getting back to normal hopefully. He went to shoot doubles and had one pair to finish the hundred and the lever on his Beretta fell off. I guess you could say when it rains it pours.

Morgan Shaw presented Lil D Tollison the Hall of Fame HOA ring he won in April 2022. Not sure how many years Morgan has been doing this for the HOF but the ring he creates is a piece of art with the HOF logo. Morgan has coached Lil D for 8 years and what a great moment to present this ring to one of his students.

Two BIG50 events this week with Rockingham on Tuesday and CCLEOA on Friday. RCGC will start at 9 and we normally shoot doubles first. Come out and join us and dates have been submitted for the remainder of the year. CCLEOA had their first BIG50 earlier in the month and it was a great success. They had 4 CCLEOA members and 2 visitors shoot in the event. Hopefully more folks will gravitate to their club to register targets in that neck in the woods.

That is about it for this week. Have a great start to the week and remember Marty Hill is still classifying shooters to help speed up the process when checking in. Hello to Scott, Ronnie, Cowboy, Tim, Bobbie, Thea and Anne and until next week………..smokem
