December 27th Smoke Report
Posted: Sun Dec 26, 2021 8:55 pm
Christmas 2021 is in the books and here comes the New Year. I hope you and your family had a great holiday and are looking forward to 2022. I will have to admit the last two years have been interesting.
No shoot reports today but if you want to register some targets this coming weekend Buckhorn will host the first shoot in North Carolina the 2nd. Weather looks iffy right now with 50% percent rain and a tad windy. But weather forecasts cannot be trusted always.
Looks like some NC folks are plotting and planning to descend on the Silver Dollar Gun Club in March for the Southern Grand. I know that is ways off, but it will be here before you know it. It has been quite a few years since I attended, and it will be good to eat some Greek food on the sponge docks. Even Dave Daily and some of his PA family and friends might make the trip.
The NC Home Grounds will host 4 events in 2022 and the first will be in April with the Hall of Fame Shoot. George Sudderth will be inducted, and I will proceed to scour my pictures of BamBam starting in 2004 when I started using digital photography. Unfortunately, I might not be able to attend the event due to another event happening on that week/end. If I am not mistaken the GA State Shoot is going on that week also. I am sure the HOF will be well attended and hopefully I can slip up for the ceremony. I guess we will find out whether it will be held between the 100’s on Saturday or a banquet Saturday night. Also, we hope Old Hickory will host their BBQ dinner on Friday night. I have no confirmation on that dinner at this time.
As I have mentioned before gun clubs are planning their registered shoots for 2022. Buckhorn, Durham County, Watauga, Old Hickory, Ft. Bragg, Buccaneer and Rockingham should all be submitting requests to the ATA and the NCTA for approval. We have lost a few clubs that are still active including Gastonia and Polk County and Charlotte R&PC. It would be great if Rowan County could crank up a BIG50 program with as much activity as they generate there. As soon as dates get published, we will post links to the info.
As many of you know Joe Bouverette passed away recently and I really didn’t have a lot of info on him. He shot 21250 singles, 15625 handicap and 11200 doubles. He shot his last registered targets at the Watauga Gun Club on 10/23/2021. The ATA shows that his first registered targets were registered in 1992 but did not show where they were registered. I reached out to the folks at the Morganton Gun Club but so far, no response. It looks like he shot most of his targets in NC and 2011 was a good average year for him and he only had one year that he shot 1000 in both singles and caps. He always had a smile on his face when I was around him and he will be sorely missed. If you have any stories to share about Joe, please feel free to contact me and we will publish the info.
Ok that about it for the last smoke report of 2021. Hopefully we will have enough information to report in 2022 and I shouldn’t have a problem finding it. I hope to be shooting more after I get my eyes fixed and looking forward to that. Hello to Scott, Ronnie, Cowboy, Tim, Bobby, Thea and Anne and until next week………….smokem
