Rockingham Gun Club Shoot Report For December 7th, 2008

Post by smokem »

A dedicated group of hardy individuals braved the cold and the wind at the Rock today. We had 6 shooters in the singles event and 4 stuck around to play handicap. As long as your were inside the buildings it was great. When you walked outside the wind was roaring through the trees.

We shot trap 1 and trap 2 and targets were up-up and away most of the day. Two 25's were broken in the singles and 22 was the highest score in the handicap. Out of 400 targets thrown in the handicap I had to call LOST 111 times.

Singles - Chris Shoulars walked to the line in a pair of pants, shirt and swearshirt and a ball cap. He was barehanded and was on his way to a 98 before he dropped a bird deep into his 4th field. Gorgeous George Brown's gun broke and had to borrow Marty Wood's SKB to finish the 100. George won AA with a solid 92 and a borrowed gun. John Woolsey went against his 50 degree 5mph rule and paid the price on his way to his A class win. Lane Murray laid the lumber on enough clay to secure the B class prize away from 2 B class penalty shooters.

Handicap - 4 shooters stepped to the line and Chris Shoulars outlasted the field on the way to the win. With all 4 being in the same yardage group it was like a 100 bird shootoff with Lane Murray taking the MID yardage spot. Everybody had a great time and I watched some amazing circus like shooting today from the scorers chair.

Lunch - Scott Shoulars prepared deep fried fish filets and had fresh slaw, red skinned potatoes and rolls. That fish really hit the spot and thanks to Scott for the great lunch. Tom Cox ran the shoot and we appreciate his efforts and also thanks to David for scoring and loading! Also thanks to Lane - Marty - Brandon and everybody that pitched in - it's appreciated!

Last but not least we would like to say thanks to Marty Wood for riding up to the Rock to spread the lead. Marty is a engineer for ESPN and was riding up from the Davidson/State basketball game. He had a new gun to shoot and also really helped out George Brown with the loan of the SKB. Also, MW we really appreciate the Clenzoil that you picked up from Bob Schultz!

Ft. Bragg shoots this Saturday the 13th and don't forget the Lewis Class Shoot at the Rock the 14th starting at 1PM.
