August 4th Smoke Report

Post by smokem »

August is here and before you know it Thanksgiving will be upon us. Several shoots over the weekend and one shoot this Saturday in Coharie. Folks have been sick and others have had surgery and another unfortunately has lost his wife last week.

Gary Hicks sent me information earlier in the week informing me that Phillip Putnam had lost his wife Angela on July 26th. I never met the lady but I always got the shoot reports from Gastonia with her email address. Phillip works at the Gastonia Gun Club and also worked as a ref at the Homegrounds in years gone by. He was always nice to me and I always enjoyed talking to him. Our prayers go out to him and the family during this time.

I called roger Shaffer early last week and lo and behold he informed me that he was having back surgery. His daughters will be staying with his over the next six weeks and if you get a chance to call him to cheer him up please do. I checked on JC Thursday and he informed me that he had been sick since Wednesday. He had cooked some food and after ingesting it he became very ill and was still pretty weak on Sunday.

Danny Lloyd rolled up from the Coast last week and brought his camper and his 90 year old father. Caring for the elderly is always a challenge and hats off to Danny for taking care of his father in his golden years. Danny shot at the Rock Saturday and his plans were to shoot at Buckhorn on Sunday. Hopefully he got over there and put some scores up on the leader board.

Three shoots this weekend with Durham County and Rockingham on Saturday and Buckhorn on Sunday. Hopefully I will have scores for DCWC and BGC sometime today. Rockingham shot Saturday and the weather was iffy at best with dark misty conditions. Jeff Galloway won the singles, doubles and the HOA and Tommy Brown won the handicap. Jim Roland shot his first ATA registered targets and shot great for his first official birds. Crews Walden's son Charles came up to shoot with us and I hope to see him and his dad on the line real soon.

Hunter Galloway took off for the Grand Friday and spent the night in Abingdon VA. He setoff Saturday for Sparta and was in Nashville about 5pm Saturday evening. He had to be there for the AIM banquet and starts ATA meeting's bright and early Monday morning. Jeff won't take off till next weekend and Jeff has been practicing quite a bit and drive from Remington to the Rock about everyday after work. Not sure who all will be attending from NC but I will check around.

I got a Facebook message from Gene Hapney today stating that he was headed for the Grand. Gene lives in Arizona and I met Gene at the Grand around 2004. We have been long distance friends ever since and his nephew Lonnie lives in South Carolina and shoots in Spartanburg. Gene hangs out on trapshooters.com and goes by Hap Mec Tweaks and has a wealth of knowledge about shooting in general. Good luck Gene and I will be looking for your name on the leader board.

Coharie shoots this Saturday the 9th and if you have never shot at CSL you need to ride down to Clinton and check Coharie out. Two PAT traps and ERADS and they provide and awesome lunch for sure. Not sure what the middle 50 is up to but I would imagine it would well be worth your while to break 50 straight for sure.

Have a great week everybody and hello to Scott up North and to Lou down South and until next week.........................................Smokem
