Watauga Gun Club 5/24/2014 - Thanks Steve Watson

Good morning to all and greetings to our military veterans both past and present. The men and woman in our Armed Forces have paid the ultimate sacrifice to make sure we are a free people in this great country. Whether you are cooking out or traveling back from a brief vacation please remember our guys and gals currently serving around the globe!

I recently traveled to the SC State Trapshoot and had JC Nunn with me for the trip. I have mentioned this and commented about JC being inducted into the military in 1943 at Camp Croft outside of Spartanburg. I will include a link at the bottom of the smoke report if you would like to read about this amazing place that operated from 1940 to 1946. The same road that we travel to get to the gun club is the same basic road that he traveled in 1943.....just think about it!

One BIG 50 and three shooting events over the weekend. Watauga had a great crowd show up with 33 entries in the singles event. Tim Crabtree won the singles with a 98, Steve "Phenom" Watson got a 1/2 yard punch for his 96 and BamBam won the dubs with a 93. Steve Watson also won the HOA and great shooting Steve and what is this ?? beside Dan Johnson's doubles score?

Rockingham hosted their Lewis Class "non-registered" shoot and youngster Andrew Kung broke a 50 in the singles and a 40 in the caps from the 25 yard line. He is shooting a Caesar Guerini Combo and just got it last year. Next Lewis Class shoot is June 22nd.

The Ft. Bragg Gun Club hosted a BIG50 on Friday May 23rd. Jerry Kinlaw won the singles with a 46, Geoff Tomlinson won the caps with a 41 and Charlie Ackroyd won the doubles with a 41. I really need to get these on my calendar so a I can take a day of vacation to shoot on a weekday! There next BIG50 will be held on June 27th.

Marty was nice enough to post the Ft. Bragg shoot and they had a good turnout in the sandhills. Jimmy Wilson outflipped Gorgeous George Brown and Jon Miller for the singles win, Glenn Alford outflipped Ron Constanzo and Morris Carroll for the handicap win and Jimmy Wilson won the double and the HOA with a 271. Next Registered shoot will be on June 28th.

Only 9 days until the start of the 101st North Carolina State Trapshoot at the North Carolina Homegrounds. 5 days of shooting fun in the mountains of North Carolina. Preparations are being made as we speak to make sure the Homegrounds are ready for the great yearly shoot. PreSquad.com is open until the 31st in case you want to get signed up and save a little time waiting to get a squad assignment. It looks like the squads are filling up and that is a great sign that this will be a well attended event! Programs have been mailed and I will include a link to the program at the bottom of this report!

Looking forward to the Hall Of Fame shoot in September I have an announcement. Most of you know who will be inducted but if not here goes. The HOF board voted to induct Hunter Galloway in to the North Carolina Trapshooting Hall Of Fame on September 27th, 2014. I know that he is excited about this great honor and I am looking forward to the event. Hunter won the NC HOF handicap in 2013 after breaking a 96 and winning a shootoff against JC Nunn. Unfortunately after the banquet I will leave for home and jump on a plane for Salt Lake City and miss the doubles and the caps....on Sunday!

Last but not least we found out that the little dog we all loved so much had gone on. Terry Roush lost Maggie and I sure will miss her. I searched high and low for pictures and I have found a few that I will post. I took my last picture of Maggie at the Dogwood and who knew that would be her last shoot. Our thoughts and prayers are with you Terry.

OK, have a great Holiday and I will be shooting in a sporting clays match this Friday at Shane's Sporting Clays. It is a benefit for GTCC and I will be shooting with Captain Randy Sheperd and two NC State Highway Patrolman and I hope I don't stink it up! Hello to Lou and until next Monday morning.........................Sm  kem
