Here it is almost the end of October and the leaves in the NC mountains are turning or have turned. The website is back up and running and thanks again to Justin Lecus for his efforts. I got calls and texts asking about the situation and patience was the answer. Now that I cannot post on Facebook anymore all of my efforts will be here on this page.
Two trapshooting events over the weekend and it was at the Rockingham County Gun Club and Charlie Browns. ATA National Trapshooting month was celebrated with leather trophies from Shamrock leather, and the weather was beautiful. Singles winner was Mark Cox with a 99 after a 50 target shootoff with James Fisher. Handicap was won by Greg Robinson with a 91 from the back fence and Shawn Reese topped all doubles shooters with a 95. Jacob Gossett was the HOA winner. We had the pleasure of seeing NCTA President Marty Hill and he will be traveling to the Rebel Yell shoot in Alabama. RCGC shoots the 26th and it will be a BIG50 at 2PM. Since I was unable to post last week, I was unable to mention the Charlie Brown Gun Club shooting a BIG50 the 19th. Hopefully I will get some shoot score info and it was possibly posted on the TarHeelTrap Facebook page.
I just noticed that the 2026 dates have been published for the South Carolina State Shoot (April 29-May 3) at the NC HG, NC State (June 10-14) and the Dixie Grand (Oct 6-11). Make your plans to attend now and also plan your reservations. Some folks are using AIRBNB and VRBO for lodging and that is working out great for some.
Horace Best informed me that one of the trapshooting greats has passed. Dan was one heck of a shooter and the link to his info is found below. He shot his last registered targets in September 2019 according to the ATA website. https://traphof.org/inductees/details/1 ... xOfdTaGobw
Two shoots this weekend with the Watauga Wing Fling on Saturday and Buckhorn shoots Sunday. Typical 300 target programs at both shoots and Wings served at Watauga on Saturday. Lewis Wyatt’s wife Sandy might be dropping by Watauga since she has moved to that area. The weather looks good at both locations.
Dan Johnson has posted another installment in Tall Tales & True Stories. He took a break when the Dixie Grand was going and focused on competition. Not sure just how many stories he has planned to tell but hopefully I am out of his crosshairs currently.
I talked to George Sudderth and not only did his father-in-law pass his sister-in-law passed also recently. Please remember Evalyn during this time. George is currently the Facebook admin on the Kolar shotgun page I created several years ago with about 2,300 members. Big thanks to him for keeping that page going.
Ok, that will do it for this week and hopefully everyone has a great week. I was supposed to have vitrectomy surgery on my left eye last Wednesday but that has been postponed due to some other complications. But at least I got to help run the Rockingham shoot and hope to attend the Wing Fling. Hello to Scott, Ronnie, Cowboy, Tim, Bobby, Phil, Mac, John, Art, Barron, Mark C, Mark S, Dan, John W, Jimmy D, Thea and Anne and until next week……smokem
