Great weather weekend for shooting in North Carolina and several events including Watauga and Fort Bragg. We also had NC shooters at the Maryland State Shoot, and they brought some trophies back South. One two-day shoot this weekend for those that don’t travel to the VA or KY State Shoots.
Watauga shot Saturday over two PAT traps that were refurbished by Jim Wilson and John Miller. They ran great according to Morgan and worked great all day. With the Scott family at the beach Morg was tasked with using the computer to enter all the participants. With the help of the Lord, he got it done. Tytus broke a NCBOZO99 at Watauga but shot JR targets with Greg Robinson, the winner with 96. His running buddy Lenny Cordell was high caps with a 94 but no punch without 15 entries. Shawn Reese won the doubles with 89 and Keith Forbes HOA with 265. Morg would like to thank everyone that attended and to all that pitched in and helped with lunch etc…..
Fort Bragg hosted a 300-target event Sunday, and it was hot. It was so hot that one of the shooters had to be transported to the hospital. Word is that he is getting fluids and is on the mend. We will update the info next week. Les Long won the singles with a 96, James Fisher won the caps with a 90 and Larry High won the doubles with a 92 and the HOA with a 266.
The Buckhorn Gun Club near Mebane NC will host a two-day shooting event over the fourth of July holiday weekend. If I was a betting man, I would predict the program to offer 100 singles – 100 handicap and 50 pairs of doubles both days. If that is wrong, I know someone will let me know. The weather is looking good both days with temps around 90 and minimal winds.

I found our BIGD Tollison had been hospitalized and is back home according to Morgan Shaw. We will be praying for his speedy recovery. Thursday morning, I woke up to a text informing me that Debbie Galloway had fallen and had a compound fracture of her ankle. She had to have emergency surgery and got back home Friday. She was evidently packing the vehicle for their trip to the MD State shoot when the accident happened. Please pray for her speedy recovery because that required screws and a plate and more screws and a hard cast.
Lane Murray ran across some trapshooting history over the weekend. He found two of the old Jack King Challenge trophies that Elmo Matkins had retired years ago. If you won the trophy three times you got to retire it and Elmo had two of them. It was the combined score of the Championship Singles and the Championship Handicap. Evidently Jack couldn’t shoot doubles and thus the sgls/caps format was born.
That will about do it for this week. Be sure to hydrate and listen to your body. Pushing it too far in the heat can have grave consequences. Hello to Scott, Ronnie, Cowboy, Tim, Bobby, Phil, Mac, John, Art, Barron, Mark C, Mark S, Travelin Dan, John W, Thea and Anne and until next week……smokem
