Delaware State Trapshoot 2025

Prior to the Memorial Day Holiday weekend, I got a text from Barron Church letting me know he had landed in Shamong New Jersey. You might ask what is in Shamong NJ and the answer is the Pine Belt Sportsman Club.

The family was on site for the Delaware State Shoot that went from Thursday to Memorial Day Monday. The championship weekend offered 200 singles on Sunday and 50 pair doubles and 100 caps on Monday.

The weather did not cooperate for the most part all week with rain and heavy winds. As many of you know Caleb and Connor can put up a score on any given day and it was for the most part a struggle.

Caleb secured several JrGold trophies early in the week and the focus was on the championship weekend. Saturday was less than stellar for the AA shooter, and he was trailing PA JrGold shooter Brandon Hood by plus or minus 8 birds. All that was left was the dubs and the caps and Brandon fell off the map in the last event. Also noticed PA JrGold shooter Joseph Breck was in the mix also. Caleb won the HOA but lost the HAA in a shootoff with Joseph Breck. Caleb had some rib issues in the 16’s and caps but ran the doubles portion. It just goes to to show that every target counts and the 79 in caps Caleb broke was what secured his win in HOA and tie in the HAA.

Connor had his name drawn for the $1000 caps shoot and Connor came in second and landed 300 bucks. Shannon and Connor came up to shoot the championship weekend and visit. The fam has visited a little Italian eatery that only seats about 25 people. They also got to go to a Phillies/Braves game Tuesday night. Wednesday they will go on a whale watching tour in Cape May.

And to ramp up the fun factor even more they are sticking around for the New Jersey State shoot at the same gun club! Caleb will be fine-tuned for the upcoming NC State Shoot!!!!!

On a side note, another NC shooter slipped in to play at Pine Belt. JrGold NC shooter Tyler “Cowboy” Cox showed up to shoot and Caleb and Tyler wound up in a doubles shootoff. You might not know it, but these two shooters are distant cousins according to Barron. Glad to see these two all grown up and competing out of state.

Hopefully I will get some more info on what all the NC shooters brought back from the Delaware and New Jersey State shoots.
