Great weather weekend in North Carolina if you were a duck. Saturday the forecast was rain all day and that was true for some areas. One shoot over the weekend and a two-day event at Buckhorn Gun Club this weekend.
The Buckhorn Gun Club will host a two-day shoot this weekend and will offer 100 singles, 100 handicap and 50 pair of doubles each day. Saturday night they will be serving a meal consisting of hot dogs and burgers and all the fixings. The weather looks great both days with highs in the low 70’s.
The Rockingham County Gun Club hosted a youth-oriented event on May 4th. The ATA AIM Youth Championship was held, and most weather predictions foretold a washout. Folks started showing up to sign up and after a brief safety meeting and presentation it was time to shoot.
Here came the rain and it was hard, and the question is would it last? Start time was predicted for 10 and at 10:23 the shooting commenced with light drizzle. The singles squad I was scoring for had three fellows that broke two 50 straights and a 49. The grease pencils and laminated score sheets worked great and by the third 25 the rain stopped and would not rain again during competition.
30 singles, 21 handicap and 16 doubles shooters posted scores with Colson Allen winning the singles with a 99, Wyatt Shoaf the handicap with a 97 and Gage Malone doubles with a 93 and HOA by one target over Wyatt Shoaf. This is a smaller shoot than in previous years, but we will prepare for 2025 very shortly. We also had shooters from Virginia that had never been to RCGC and that was great!
That is about it for this week and before you know it the NC State Shoot will be here. Pre-Squad is open so get over there and get signed up.
