The Rockingham County Gun Club hosted their annual “Memorial” shoot Saturday September 16th. The weather was cooler and sunny and very little wind for the singles event. 17 stepped to the line and two 98’s emerged from the heap. Chris Powell and Colson Allen shot on the same squad, and it took an extra round to determine the winner, Chris Powell.
Handicap cranked up and Matthew Coates broke the lone 94 to lead all 15 shooters and got him a punch back to the 20 next time out. Isaac McCoy and Greg Robinson were the next high score with 91’s.
The wind picked up a bit for the doubles and Jacob Gossett and Matthew Coates tied with 93’s. It took a shoot off to determine the winner and it was Matthew Coates.
With Matthew winning the handicap and the doubles the question was what did he break for singles and it was a solid 97. 97+94+93=284x300 and the HOA winner.
There was $400 added money to honor Elmo Matkins, Lewis Wyatt, JC Nunn and Joe Nimer. We would like to thank everyone that came out to shoot and to all that pitched in and helped. Also, thanks Art Bodell for sliding down out of Virginia to visit.
BIG50 starting at 1 register 2 shoot Sunday September 17th. You do not have to be an ATA member to participate. Also, mark your calendar for October 14th for the ATA National Trapshooting month/day BIG50 shoot. We will have Shamrock leather trophies for this event. We offered these trophies in 2010+2020 and the response in 2020 was great!
