April 10th Smoke Report

Post by smokem »

Good morning from sunny and windy Avon NC. Quite a weather weekend with super windy and wet conditions for both Old Hickory @ Rocky Mount and Buckhorn Gun Club. Not a lot going on this week but wait the NC Hall of Fame shoot starts Thursday at the NC Home Grounds.

The Marty Hill report included mentions of wet weather and a great lunch. Singles was the only event shot Saturday at Old Hickory and Brandon Matthews was hi-gun with a 92. His brother Graham won “C” Class with an 88 and had the only 25 of the day. Horace Best won the Senior Vet and way to battle the elements fellows. Old Hickory will shoot next on May 27th. Marty has really caught the short end of the weather stick when registering shoots. Marty is offering his services to areas that need rain because he will guarantee rain at your club if he registers a trapshoot.

Buckhorn shot Sunday and it was well attended considering the windy conditions. VA shooter Ted Carwile won the singles with a 98 and HOA with a 248. Darrell Parham won the handicap with an 88 and will shoot from the 21-yard line after his ½ yard punch. Jonathan Miller won the doubles with an 82……As always thanks to all that attended and to all that helped run the shoot and provide the great lunch.

Lots of shooting to experience between now and the Hall of Fame starting the 20th of April and ending the 23rd. This Friday (14th)CCLEOA shoots their first BIG50 of 2023. Saturday (15th) there are two events with a BIG50 at Charlie browns and a typical 300 target program at Durham County Wildlife Club. Sunday (16th) Watauga hosts their bi-monthly BIG50.

Then the NC Hall of Fame starts the 20th and runs through Sunday the 23rd. No inductee this year and if you know of someone worthy of inducting to the HOF go to www.nctrap.com and read the info about submitting candidates. Saturday night the banquet will feature Hall of Fame inductees speaking about NC shooting and HOF stories. Also their will be a auction of items to benefit the NC AIM program. If you plan on attending and have not sent your money in contact Jim Hughes immediately to reserve your seat. BIG DAVE will be catering the event with his famous steak dinner and I just got hungry again thinking about that slab of meat.

Ok that is about it for this week. I hope everyone can get out to shoot this week prior to the HOF. Hello to Scott, Ronnie, Cowboy, Tim, Bobby, Phil, Thea and Anne and until next week……..smokem
