The planning and planets aligned to provide a perfect weather day for the last Lewis Class Shoot of the 2011 season. Not only were all of the monthly Lewis Class Shoot winners in attendance we also had some new faces show up to spread some lead. The goal of the Lewis Class Shoots is to have fun and provide an environment for competitive trapshooting.

This last shoot was suppose to be held on the 4th starting at 2PM. Lewis Wyatt (fresh off a knee replacement) could not attend the event on the 4th due to a 100 year anniversary at his Church. We had thought about moving to the 10th and found out that Ronnie Manuel would not be unable to attend. Luckily we were able to adverstise and actually took the time to call folks to make them aware of the date and time change.

The weather was a bit cool at 10AM but it warmed up nicely with a gentle wind blowing in from the North. 25 shooters took the line for the singles and when the smoke cleared there were a few top scores. Ronnie Manuel led all shooters with a 49 and Drew and Tommy Brown had 48's. There were a few 47's that included Roger Haney, Winky Mabe and Charley Rinehart.

Lunch was then served and it consisted of some homemade soup and it was good from what I heard. Scott Shoulars prepared the soup and it sure smelled great in the clubhouse. Tommy Brown was dropping Texas Pete hotsauce into his soup and it really helps his eyesight according to him. Everybody got their belly full and it was time for the handicap event.

We had 7 squads to run through the two traps and it went smoothly. I got to score and I had to call "LOST" a lot during the handicap and my suggestion for 2012 is to put our new shooters on the 18 yard line for the handicap events if possible. There was a lot on the line in the caps and the folks that broke the top scores in caps were not the winners of the Lewis Class Shoot.

Lewis Wyatt (fresh off knee replacement) led all handicap shooters with a 47 and that is amazing. The next highest score was him nemesis JC Nunn with a 46. These guys tied at a Lewis Class Shoot earlier in the year and won with the highest score during the year which was a 95. JC however laid it on Lewis today and nipped him by 3 birds which we will here about for the next few weeks.

The winner of the December 3rd Lewis Class Shoot was a tie between Tommy Brown and JR shooter Andrew "Drew" Kung. With Drew having the top score of the day it allowed him to shoot in the Lewis Class Singles Shootoff which took place after the Lewis Class winners were announced and all the door prizes were given.

We had a lot of new folks shooting today and we would like to thank them for coming out to shoot. Van brought a few fellows out and the only fellow I got both names was Fred Pinson who works for GPD. Zach Tate shot well and joined the ATA today and we hope he comes out to shoot with us more often. Matt O'Bryant broke out his Perazzi today and broke his first 25 straight in trap. We had two ladies shooting today and Sadie and Judy shot well today amongst all of the men folks. There are others I need to mention and hopefully we can get your full name the next time around.

There were 4 places paid today with all the shooters that showed up. Andrew and Tommy took 1st place, Roger - Charley - Matt - Van took 2nd place, Scott Shoulars took 3rd place and Van's friend Chris took 4th place. Several folks won some great door prizes including Zach - Freddy - JC Nunn andd there were a few other winners.

Then it was time for the Lewis Class Shootout and 9 folks stepped to the line including - Roger Haney, JC Nunn, Lewis Wyatt, Winky Mabe, Charley Rinehart, Ronnie Manuel, Drew Kung, Tommy Brown and Freddy Redmon. Roger Shaffer went home and Lane Murray was running the shoot and under the weather.

After the smoke cleared from the 1st 25 there were two men standing and they were Tommy Brown and Charley Rinehart. They stepped to the line and both were straight until the last post where Charlie dropped two making Tommy Brown the 2011 Lewis Class Shootout winner. We are having a trophy ordered that will show the winner and runnerup of the 2011 Lewis Class Shootout.

We would like to thank everybody that came out today and to all of the folks that have attended throughout the year. Also thanks to Lane Murray, Tom Cox, JT Brewer and Scott Shoulars for all their work and assistance throughout the year. We would also like to thank Leo Weber and Gary for helping also during the year at LCS and registered events.

Look out for the 2012 Lewis Class Shoot schedule that will be published possibly after the first of the year.
