North Carolina Hall Of Fame trapshooter Elmo Matkins passed away today at 2:30 PM in Reidsville NC. We will publish the funeral arrangements as soon as they are available.

William Elmore Matkins February 17, 2011

William Elmore Matkins, 80, of 2120 Belmont Dr. died Thursday (Feb. 17, 2011) at Annie Penn Hospital.

Graveside services will be conducted at 3:30 PM Sunday (Feb. 20, 2011) in Evergreen Memory Gardens with Military Rites by the Rockingham Co. Veteran’s Honor Guard.

A native of the Williamsburg Community of Rockingham Co., he was a son of the late William Henry and Minnie Brooks Matkins and had lived in Reidsville most of his life. Elmore was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a US Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict, a charter member of the Rockingham Co. Gun Club, a member of the A.T.A., and was inducted into the N. C. Trap Shooting Hall of Fame. He has owned and operated Matkins Plumbing since 1964.

Elmore was preceded in death by his wife: Shirley Krites Matkins and by Brothers: David Matkins and Harold Matkins.
Surviving is his son: Steve Matkins and wife: Doris of the home
Daughter: Janet M. Holt and husband: Tim of Reidsville
Sister: Mary Frances M. Brown and husband: Bill of Reidsville
Grandsons: Will Tyler Matkins and Jason Richardson
His faithful companion: Greyson

The family will see friends from 2:00 until 3:00PM Sunday (Feb. 20, 2011) at Citty Funeral Home and at other times, they will be at the residence. Memorials may be made to: The Rockingham Co. Humane Society 205 Boone Rd. Eden, NC 27288. Online condolences may be made at www.cittyfh.com
