GREENSBORO WESLEY C. WHITWORTH, 78, PASSED AWAY Monday December 1, 2014, at Wesley Long Hospital-Cone Health of Greensboro.Graveside Funeral Services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, December 4, 2014, at Alamance Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Dr. M. Gray Clark officiating.

The family will receive friends at Forbis and Dick Funeral Home (North Elm Street) on December 4, 2014 from 2 until 3 p.m.Wesley was born January 23, 1936, the son of Eric O. Whitworth and Juanita Ozment Whitworth. Wesley was a talented athlete playing football at Greensboro Senior High School, where he graduated in 1955. He served 8 years in the U. S. Naval Reserve and was discharged honorably. He retired from Greensboro News and Record in July 1993 with 37 years of service.

He was a Captain for 20 years with the Pinecroft Sedgefield Fire Department serving on the Board of Directors as President. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of the Cross where he served as a Deacon and Elder. Wesley was a member of the American Trapshooting Association and passionate outdoorsman. He loved to hunt, fish and competition trap and skeet shooting. He was preceded by his high school sweetheart and loving wife Sylvia A. Whitworth; a son Charles W. Whitworth and wife Teresa of Greensboro; a daughter Victoria A. Whitworth and husband Jeffrey Long of Morganton; four grandchildren Britney Noel Whitworth, Kendal W. Walker (Josh), Sarah Katherine and Samuel Jefferson Long and a great grandchild Julian B. Walker; sisters, Jean Marsh, Linda Sauls (Glen) and Ann Blake (Mike), brothers George Whitworth (Pam), Richard Whitworth (Sara) and Wayne Whitworth (Gale), brother-in-law Thomas "Tommy" Black (Bobbie) and much loved nieces and nephews.

Wesley and his family would like to express their appreciation to Christina Gionelli for her dedicated service, he loved you very much.
