Rockingham Gun Club Mid-Summer Shoot 8/2/2014

The Rockingham Gun Club hosted their Mid-Summer registered trapshoot Saturday August 2nd. The weatherman and everyone I talked to figured it would rain some or most all day. Well, they were all wrong and even though the sun did not shine and the wind did not blow all shooters stayed dry all day. There was a heavy mist early in the singles but it really dried up during the handicap.

We had a squad of locals shoot the singles and they included Bill Norman, Jim Waynick, Dave Slaydon and Jim Roland. The firs three fellows attended our intro to trap class awhile back and have been attending and shooting at the Lewis Class shoots and registered also. Jim Roland registered his 1st registered trap targets Saturday and broke 46x50 on his last 50. Good to see new folks on the line shooting at that is what it is all about. Oh, Dave Slaydon broke a 96 and that isn't too shabby for sure.

I had the pleasure of meeting Crews Waldens son Charles Saturday. I had no idea he had a son and sure glad to see him shooting with us at the Rock. Danny Lloyd came up to visit and shoot and brought his camper and his father for the trip. His plan was to roll down to Buckhorn and shoot Sunday and then head back to the coast on Monday.

Now back to the shoot........Singles started out in a misty, foggy low light fuzz. When the event was over Jeff Galloway dropped one on the 1st trap and then burnt up 75 straight for the winning 99. Lane Murray broke 50, 24 and then dropped three for a 96. That tied Winky Mabe and they shot two rounds to decide the winner with Winky running the second trap for the win.

Tommy Brown slid in during lunch and jumped on Jeff's one man long yardage squad for the handicap. Tommy broke 45 before getting to trap two for the last 50. Tommy broke a 25 on his third trap and was well on his way to a 50 straight until his 4th post on the last 25. He missed only one more for a 23 and a 93 to win the event from the back fence. Chase Walker broke his first 25 and dropped his first bird out on his second trap for an eventual 91 in the event. The next closest shooter was Lane Murray with a 92 and the 22 on his last trap was the deal breaker.

Four doubles shooters stepped to the line and after the first 50 there were three 44's and Jeff broke a 46. After the second 50 Jeff broke a 45 for a 91 and Tommy broke a 47 for a 91 and a tie. Jeff and Tommy shot two rounds to decide the winner and Jeff nipped Tommy by one on the second round.

Jeff won the HOA with a 278 with Winky breaking a 272 and Chase a 269. Thanks to everybody that attended and to all that helped.
