Rockingham "State Shoot Warmup" Scores

It looks like Tommy Brown used the “State Warmup Shoot” At The Rockingham Gun Club to get warmed up for the upcoming event. The weather was great and even a little hot at times. The wind whipped around a little and the popcorn clouds started drifting around during the handicap.
We had a good crowd show up and we had four folks join the ATA. They included Doug Starr, Andrew Kung , Brian Beecraft and Little Man Hunter Murray. We also had two gentlemen from VA Robbie Robins and Justin Thompson. We appreciate them coming down to join us.
Three 96’s tied for the singles and they included Tom Brown, Glenn Alford and Roger Shaffer. Tom was the eventual winner and Doug Starr had a 98 going into his last trap and wound up with a 95. These were his first registered ATA targets and he shot great first time out.
Speaking of first time out Hunter Murray is shooting with the big boys now and registered his first ATA targets at the ripe young age of 12. Dad has a brand spanking new Browning on the way and he will be hurling 12 gauge 7/8’s at the little birdies. Good luck to him and it was neat seeing dad in the clubhouse eating and Hunter out shooting.
Handicap cranked up and some good scores were broken at the Rock. New ATA Jr Gold shooter Andrew Kung broke four 24’s for a 96 and a punch shooting penalty. As the scores came in it looked like the 96 would hold up for the win with only one shooter remaining.
Tommy Brown stepped to the line and had just gotten a reduction to the 26. He stepped to the line and mashed 50 straight and halved the “1st 50” pot that amounted to $400. After that pressure was off he stepped to trap one and managed to drop three birds.
A couple of fellows walked up to the scoring stand to check the score and had the score sheet turned over. Not real polite to walk up on a field with a squad or person to check the scores while folks are shooting. Anyway Tommy ran that last field and got that yard back for the NC State Shoot.
Doubles netted 6 shooters and Tommy managed to break a pair of 47’s for a 94 for the win. The 96 in singles, 97 in handicap and 94 in doubles resulted in a 287x300 for the HOA win.
Thanks to all that came out to shoot and thanks to all that helped load, score, prepare lunch and run the shoot. We couldn’t do it without all of the support.
