The Rockingham Gun Club hosted their monthly registered shoot Saturday and called it the Groundhog Shoot. Temps were chilly and the wind whipped around some and that made it even colder. We didn’t even think we were going to have enough shooters to hold a shoot and then folks started showing up.
Doug Howell was visiting from Thurmont Maryland and thanks for coming by to shoot Doug. Beryl Francis rode up from Rockingham NC and brought his wife and their dog. Dan Johnson rode up to shoot and I can’t remember that last time Dan shot a registered target at the Rock.
We had two squads to shoot the singles and when the smoke cleared Maryland shooter Doug Howell won the singles with a 98. he had 48 on the front and the only 50 straight of the day to win. Tommy Brown led all handicap shooters with a 93 from the back fence and he won the doubles with a 90 and the HOA with a 278 x 300.
Scott Shoulars prepared a tasty hot dog lunch and we took a break between the singles and handicap. During the winter months folks up North would love the kind of weather that we had on Saturday. I hear tales of folks up North shooting in temps near zero with snow on the ground and the wind just a howling.
The RCGC would like to thank all that attended and all that pitched in to help score, load and run the shoot. The Rock will host their monthly registered shoots on the first Saturday of every month in 2013.
