A good group showed up for the last Lewis Class Shoot of the 2012 season. The weather was almost perfect with temps in the mid 50’s and very little wind. The sun peaked out occasionally and it starts going down about 3:30 plus or minus. We wound up with 13 shooters and had 5 first time Lewis Class entries.

These new shooters included Hunter Harrelson, John Longaker, Bill & Will Heckman, Stepahnie Mistovich and JC Stephens. We appreciate them coming out to shoot with us and we hope they will make it out again real soon. The concept of the shoot is to introduce folks to shooting trap in similar conditions just like ATA registered events. Regardless everybody had a great time and that is the biggest benefit of all.

The top dog’s in the singles were Ronnie Manuel and Chris Shoulars with solid 49’s. JC Nunn and Roger Shaffer were close with 48’s with Tommy Brown Posting a 47. Then came the caps with Tom Brown, Ronnie Manuel and JC Nunn posting 47’s. That left Ronnie with higun honors with his lone 96, JC with a 95 and Chris and Tommy with 94’s.

Ronnie took the top Lewis, Freddy Redmon took the mid-Lewis and Youngstown Ohio lady shooter Stephanie Mistovich took the low-Lewis. All that was left to do was assemble the crew for the long awaited Lewis Class Shoot – Shootout. The winners and co-winners would step to the line and shoot two yards back from the yardage they won their monthly Lewis Class shoot.

That meant that Tommy Brown had to shoot in the grass from the 29 yard line and that JC Nunn would have to shoot from the 22 (you know that ain’t fair). We had two squads and squad one consisted of Freddy, Ronnie, Lewis and JC. When the smoke cleared Ronnie had a 21, Lewis and Freddy had 20’s and J-Bird had a 19. We left the door wide open for Chris and Tommy and all they had to do was beat a 21 or tie a 20 for a cut of the monies.

The monies were split 60 for the topshot and 30 for the runner-up. Chris and Tommy commenced to shooting and all Tommy had to do was break his 25th bird to tie for 2nd place and yep he missed for a 19. I yelled over to JC and said hey J-Bird Tommy tied you and spotted you 7 yards, J-Bird yelled back at me and said – well I spotted Tommy 30 years. Everybody was laughing after that comment as we were walking away from the line. I have a picture that was taken right after that exchange happened.

We would like to thank everybody that came out Sunday and to all the folks that shot with us during the year. Thanks to Lane Murray for his efforts all year and to Tom Cox for filling in when needed. Also thanks to Scott Shoulars, JT Brewer, Tommy Brown, Jeff & Hunter Galloway, Leo Weber and to all the folks that helped run the events. We will be posting the calendar for the shoots for 2013 so please make a note of the dates. We hope everybody has a great Christmas and a Happy New Year……

P.S. - JC laid it on Lewis in the Lewis Class Shoot with an 18 bird swing. However Lewis did nip J-Bird in the shootoff by 1 bird..... just in case you were wondering......
