Another week has passed and here comes October. I read that a Nor’easter is approaching the eastern seaboard and will reach from NC to Maine. I am glad my OBX trip is still a few weeks away.
Watauga shoots this Saturday and it is the Joe Bouvrette Memorial. Joe was a member at WGC for 10 years or so and shot his last registered targets at the Chicken Wing Fling in 2021. He registered close to 50,000 targets and shot a Perazzi Combo. Typical 300 target program and the weather is looking perfect with temps in the high 60’s and a low of 43.
Rockingham County Gun Club hosted their Memorial shoot Saturday, and the weather turned out warm. Overcast early with minimal winds and then here came the sun. Colson Allen won the singles with a 98 and Lane Murray a close second with a 97. Lane test drove his new Pro-Soft stock on the Seitz and secured the handicap win with a 90. Mark Cox posted the high score for the doubles with a 93 and also won the HOA. Not a big turnout but ATA registered targets were recorded and memories were made. Doug and Kim McKinney joined us, and it was great to see them at RCGC. Art Bodell drove down from Virginia to shoot, and it was great to see him. RCGC shoots next in October for National Trapshooting Month. No leather trophies this year but pins will be given.
One last shoot in September and it will be held at the Buckhorn Gun Club on Wednesday the 30th. BIG50 format and they register at 11 and shoot at 12 +/-. Good warmup for the Dixie that is right around the corner.
Speaking of the Dixie Grand it is about here and I hope the weather is cool and dry for this year’s competition. If you are interested in scoring at the Dixie please contact Gail Soper. They are needing help this year and all help is appreciated. I got to drift through the pre-squad for the shoot and it looks like quite a few folks have signed up. It will be interesting to see how the turnout will be with the higher cost of shells, fees, lodging, food, gas with very little money paid back to the shooter. Monday morning Marty Hill is reporting that 223 have signed up for Saturday singles..
Big shout out to Chris Powell and I hope you are on the mend. Can’t wait to see you out amongst us and hope to give you a call this week. George Suddreth is on the mend after a bout with possible strep throat. He commented that his wife got back from an overseas trip and had the Asian flu and double pneumonia. Horace Best is on the mend after returning from a trip out West with a case of pneumonia. He sounds good on the phone and is still taking his meds.
That will do it for this week. Terry Roush attended the Okoboji Indian shoot in Nashville, and he said it was hot. He commented that attendance was down a bit and that Jim Hughes was there.
