September 14th Smoke Report

Another great weather weekend in North Carolina with a touch of rain that moved East Saturday night. One trap shoot over the weekend at the Durham County Wildlife Club and one this Saturday at the Rockingham County Gun Club.
Scarlett Su was nice enough to post her shoot results and thanks so much. The weather was warm and they had a good turnout. Doug McKinney led all singles shooters with a lone 99, Doug Monjeau high caps with a 91 and Doug high doubles with an 87. Doug also won the HOA with a 272x300……That is the last shoot of 2026 for Durham County, and they had a great year.
This Saturday the Rockingham County Gun Club will host their annual “Memorial” shoot. Registration will begin at 8:30 with shooting to begin soon thereafter. Weather looks good with temps in the low 90’s. $100 will be awarded to the hi-gun singles, handicap, doubles and HOA winners. Also, the MID50 pot is sitting at $1755 and someone needs to claim it.
Looking at the end of September, Watauga shoots the 26th and Buckhorn hosts a BIG50 the 30th. Then of course the Dixie Grand rolls around on the 6th through the 11th. Hopefully the weather will be great and please no remnants of a hurricane please.
The “Memorial” shoot concept has been around for a long time. Watauga remembers Glen Miller and Tom Pitts with Buckhorn, at one time remembering Ted Smith with Charlie Brown and Durham County remembering Doug House. This year we will be remembering Elmo Matkins, Lewis Wyatt, JC Nunn and Roger Shaffer. It would take some time but naming all of the shooters that I have known since 1964 would be quite a list. All the folks I shot with or met or even scored for in Pinehurst, Spartanburg, Durham, and of course at the Rockingham Gun Club…..
Hate to cut it short but it is time to hit the sack. I hope everyone has a great start to the week, and it looks like it will be hot.
