April 27th Smoke Report

It was a great weather weekend in North Carolina for the most part. Warm and sunny on Saturday and cool and windy on Sunday in the Piedmont Triad. One shoot over the weekend was cancelled at the Watauga Gun Club. Not sure how much it rained up there but hey they gave it their best shot.
I have requested the scores from CCLEOA and Buckhorns last BIG50. Thanks to Chris Powell I have the Buckhorn BIG50 info. Chris won the singles with 48, caps with 44 and the HOA. David Nelson win the doubles with a 41. Thanks and see you at the HG...
The Georgia State Shoot is in the books, and it was well attended. 177/137/155 for the Championship weekend. In state major winners – Singles 199 Andrew Cortner, Doubles 96 Ethan Ledford, Handicap 97 Ethan Ledford, HAA 389 Ethan Ledford, HOA 967 Ethan Ledford. Out-Of-State major winners – Singles 199 CO175 Herbert Lewis KY, Doubles 100 Evan O’Leary AL, Handicap 98 John Kirksey MD. From what I can tell the weather was good looking at the scores. Bill Howe was the only North Carolina shooter to attend the event.
Just a few more days until the South Carolina State Shoot cranks up and don’t forget the NC Hall of Fame shoot tucked into the weekend. The weather looks good with temps in the low 70’s all 5 days. Fingers crossed because the weather forecast could change dramatically. I was planning for rain on Friday and Saturday but now it looks drier than originally forecast. Saturday night Jim Hughes and John Miller will be inducted into the HCHOF. If you are planning on attending, I have a request for folks shooting Saturday. We are asking for all shooters to wear a royal blue t-shirt to honor John Miller being inducted into the HOF. We will try to get a group picture of everyone including John.
We lost 4 NC shooters last year and we will be remembering them at the Hall of Fame banquet. They are Charlie Ackroyd, Hulden Hollis, Roger Latham and Jim Tiner. Information and the obits will be listed after the HOF banquet. White balloons are released at the NC State Shoot to remember these individuals between the 100’s on Saturday. If you have shooting friends that you haven’t talked to in awhile give them a ring, I am sure they would appreciate it.
That is going to do it for this week. For all scores you can access www.shootscoreboard.com starting on Wednesday. Hello to Scott, Ronnie, Cowboy, Tim, Bobby, Phil, Mac, John, Art, Barron, Mark C, Mark S, Dan, John W, Jimmy D, SPY2, HGIII, Thea and Anne and until next week……smokem
One last important thing and that is with the loss of Lynn Gipson, the ATA has found his replacement. Randy Moeller is coming out of retirement to take on the task of executive director. Randy worked for Remington and other sports related entities and will come to the ATA with a wealth of knowledge in the industry. Dan Johnson tipped me off to the hiring and thanks to him for letting me know. He will report on the 28th of April and we wish him well. Hunter Galloway will be attending the services for Lynn this weekend in Sparta and will miss the SC/HOF shoot at the Homegrounds.
