Great weekend for shooting in North Carolina and three shooting events last week. BGC BIG50, Watauga and Old Hickory shot in relatively good conditions. If you have issues with pollen that might have been a factor last week.

Buckhorn hosted a BIG50 Wednesday and some good scores were broken. Ed Gideon led all singles entries with a 49 with Charles Woody with a 48. Handicap hi-gun was Allan Davis with a 40 with Doug Monjeau and Ed Gideon with 39’s. Allan also led all doubles shooters with a 42. Buckhorn shoots next on April 11th & 12th.

Watauga shot Saturday and it started out cool and the wind blew up until the doubles. Grant Bledsoe broke a 98 in the wind with Daniel Tollison a close second with a 96. Grant Bledsoe and Titus Wilson earned a ½ yard punch for their 92’s in handicap and Shawn Reese won doubles with a 90 and the HOA with 272x300. It was so cold Randy “Boone” Jones was wearing jeans and an Elmer Fudd hat. Watauga shoots next on April 25th.

Old Hickory shot Sunday and the picture I posted was taken by Mark Cox. Mark won the singles with a 97, caps from the 27 with 87 and doubles with an 89. Yes, he won the HOA with a 273x300. Old Hickory shoots next on May 24th.

Easter weekend is approaching and one shoot this Saturday at the Rockingham County Gun Club. BIG50 format with registration at 9 and shooting will begin as soon as squads are filled.

I have a bad habit of sending texts to folks with state shoot programs and wound up talking to one of the best trapshooters in North Carolina. Some of you might know or remember Sherwood Jenkins but take a look at the 2026 NC State Shoot program for past winners and look for his name. It was great to reminisce about the good old days of hand pull, 2 hole targets and handset Winchester Western traps.

I also talked to Jim Daughteridge, Charlie Keiger and Gorgeous George Brown last week about various odd subjects regarding trapshooting folks gone by. I have always thought it was good to stay in touch with folks while they are living because it is almost impossible to communicate with them when they are gone.

Ok, that will do it for this week, and I hope everyone has a blessed Easter Weekend with family and friends. Hello to Scott, Ronnie, Cowboy, Tim, Bobby, Phil, Mac, John, Art, Barron, Mark C, Mark S, Dan, John W, Jimmy D, SPY2, Thea and Anne and until next week……smokem
